For years South Carolina has been affectionately referred to as the “half back state” by retirees.  This is because many southern bound retirees pass through the Charleston Lowcountry on their way to the hotter climate in Florida, only to come “half back” to South Carolina later and settle in. 

While driving under the majestic oak trees and past all the beautiful plantations it certainly isn’t hard to see why and when Charleston temperatures occasionally rise to those of southern Florida it’s nice to look forward to the fall and spring weather just around the corner!  With fine dining, farm to table, and even oyster dives or famous hotdogs, there’s no shortage of wonderful places to eat and with golf courses, beaches and history on every corner,  a new resident could spend years just trying to enjoy it all! 

Lowcountry South Carolina Career Opportunities

Others are moving because of abundant career opportunities at every level.  With huge employers like Boeing, who so far has upwards of 8,000 employees, and Nucor Steel along with news of others like Volvo coming to the area, projections for employment in the manufacturing arena alone are more than promising. 

Additionally, with companies like Google, Blackbaud and Spaywar, the tech industry and opportunity in Charleston is also huge!  Tourism and travel means the hospitality and service opportunities that have been here so long are only increasing and small business, marketing companies and graphic designers are all needed and therefore growing as well!

Lowcountry South Carolina Home Values

The real estate market of course benefits from all of this and Charleston home values have been on the rise for several years.  New construction has helped meet the demand but so far the lowcountry overall seems to have a healthy balance of supply and demand with about 4 months of housing inventory at any time. This makes it slightly a seller’s market but at the same time buyers won’t be fighting over the same home every time.
